Understanding Story and Community Through Service

Posted on: August 10, 2016Chicago

I go by Mica (MEE-KA). I am a Florida Native, yes I love the beach. I love to travel, explore new cities, learn new cultures, and languages. During my free time I enjoy writing, planning, and watching movies. Before NHC Chicago, I was a student at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) studying healthcare administration. During my college years, I worked as a restaurant server, and participated in campus organizations, which I really enjoyed.

What I am most looking forward to in the upcoming service team, is gaining the experience in a healthcare setting, and being able to help the teenagers I come in contact with get the education and help that they need. I also look forward to understanding the cultures and the stories of some of the kids I get in contact with.

During my upcoming service term as a Health Educator at Erie Family Health Center - Teen Center, I hope to have a better understanding of the health disparities in the community of Chicago, to meet new people, and to be able to use my passion and love for others in my professional setting.
