Alan Arroyo-Chavez
Bay Area born and Central Valley raised, Alan Arroyo-Chavez (he/him) has served as one of the Program Coordinators for National Health Corps San Francisco since August 2020. Alan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Studies in Race & Ethnicity in 2019 and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies in 2020, both at Stanford University.
Alan firmly believes that global approaches can support local efforts to improve social and health outcomes for all. Prior to NHC, Alan interned at the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre in Bogotá, Colombia, where he researched how corporations exacerbate human rights violations throughout Latin America. He has also interned with Kifkif in Madrid, Spain, researching the social dynamics that lead people to seek asylum while providing them with essential services and sexual health education in the Community of Madrid. Alan stays informed about global movements, and makes it a point to remain connected to social currents in Latin America, the European Union, and other global regions to learn from healthcare and social services professionals everywhere.
As his experience in public health has grown, Alan became the San Francisco Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program Director in 2025, where he will further participate and support aspiring health professionals' academic and professional careers.
Beyond work, Alan loves: videogaming; watching horror/suspense/drama films and series with his husband, Richard; anything Godzilla, Jurassic Park, Final Fantasy, or Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra; going to the gym; spending time with loved ones; and travel!
