Where are you from?

I was born and grew up in San Francisco, and then attended school in Davis, California for 4 years. Before joining NHC, I lived in Taiwan for a year.

Why did you decide to join NHC?

Growing up in San Francisco, I was exposed from an early age to inequities in the city. My background studying human development and sociology, as well as my experience teaching, has shown me the importance of accessibility when it comes to healthcare. This understanding has motivated me to join the National Health Corps to help address health disparities in a meaningful way.

What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?

Working with NHC will be an amazing opportunity to deepen my understanding of community health as well as connect more with the underserved areas in my community. I hope to learn from the people around me, including my cohort, professionals in the field, and the diverse community members themselves in order to develop practical skills and contribute meaningfully to the nuanced public health challenges in San Francisco. Additionally, I want to learn more about the different roles that clinics, hospitals, and nonprofits play in providing services to those who need them.

What are you most looking forward to during your service term?

I look forward to learning about the city from a different perspective! I am also excited to meet and get to know everyone in the program and my host site!
