Position Title:

Food Access Coordinator

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in San Jose, California! I am excited to return to the Bay Area after studying in Los Angeles.

Why did you decide to join NHC?

NHC and its sites have the core mission of serving the community and promoting health equity, and I joined NHC to understand what that means and how it is carried out. Seeing how various factors have impacted my community’s access to care has encouraged me to find opportunities to empower and amplify the voices of those in our community.

What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?

There are so many different factors that impact a person’s ability to live a happy, healthy life. From socioeconomics to culture, I hope to be able to dive into what social determinants are and how they impact the community. Alongside that, I would love to learn how to work hand in hand with the community to address health disparities according to their own experiences and needs. There is just so much for me to gain and learn during this service term, and I am coming in with an open mind and an open heart to grow!

What are you most looking forward to during your service term?

I am excited to spend this year with the community, site, cohort, and NHC while working and learning with everyone.
