Antony NguyenBack to Member List
Antony was raised in Savannah, GA. He moved to the West Coast to attend UC Berkeley, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in Integrative Biology and minored in Global Public Health. Antony joined the National Health Corps to better understand the mechanisms in which contextual factors, such as social determinants and health disparities, influence health outcomes, management, and prevention. Antony’s motivation is in part due to his research experience, in which he assessed the burden of unmet health-related social needs in the primary care setting and analyzed factors affecting chronic disease self-management and prevention, and prior AmeriCorps experience serving under-resourced youth in Oakland, where he witnessed the effects of disparities on educational and health outcomes. Antony is excited to be serving under the San Francisco Department of Public Health as the Wellness Screening Coordinator to improve rates for preventive cancer screening measures. After his service term, Antony hopes to pursue a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology/Biostatistics and use his experiences to tackle today’s and tomorrow’s inequitable challenges and public health issues through research and interventions.
